Hope y'all enjoy this video, it's my longest to date and was a TON of work to create. Stay tuned for the rest of the projects in this bonus room, including a built-in desk with a bookcase and filing cabinet. Subscribe if you don't want to miss that one! https://goo.gl/V5gcNJ // You might be asking yourself, why am I building another Murphy bed if I already built one? Well, when my wife and I moved to our new house back in February, we actually moved the Murphy bed with us, as much of a pain as that was. When we got it to the new place and started looking at the stairway leading upstairs, where the Murphy bed would be going, we started to realize that the cabinet might not fit up the stairs. As you might remember from that video, the Murphy bed cabinet was assembled with Dominos, pocket screws, and glue, so there was no taking it apart to get it up the stairs.
After measuring, we came to the unfortunate realization that the cabinet was indeed too wide, by about ½”, and it would not fit upstairs. We thought Murphy beds were out for our guest beds in the bonus room until I came to the realization that two Twin Murphy beds would fit up the stairs just fine, and allow the same amount of sleeping area as our previous Queen Murphy bed.
As one Japanese master carpenter once said, "Glue is cheap. Use lots of glue."
Looks great 👍
I really enjoyed the video, and got some great ideas. Thank you for those!!
There were a couple things, I felt I wanted to write to you, and mention.
First, I must aadmit, I'm suffering from severe tool envy. HOW did you get all those new fancy tools, all with dust collection attachments, and every new clever gadget there is?? Are all those things from Rockler? Do you have a special deal with them? (How can I get one of those deals? LOL!). How is your shop so CLEAN??
Please could you post info on your mobile dust collector, that showed in the video, when you were sanding. TY 👍
My other random comments:
I felt a tad uncomfortable with the amount of materials you use (a few spots I thought less would be more reasonable / economical / environmentally friendly, etc. Just one example: the pull out nightstand could've had thinner plywood, and spacers (from scrap) in the middle, that would've given you a ready made place for the cord to run too).
With all the work you put in, why oh why are you covering any of it with laminate and paint? You're a woodworker, don't you love the look of wood? I can think of so many more looks that could've showcased more wood. 🥺 It's just my preference… You're free to choose, obviously. It's still a very cool project!
LOL on the window sill, I saw that as soon as you put the cabinet the corner. Stuff like that happens to all of us, at some point.
Thanks for taking the time to shoot, cut, and share. 💜Thanks also, for not being too chatty!!
Cheers ☮️🖖🕉️!
lol that was a thicc nightstand. like $20 worth of wood.
What size is a twin sized bed again? And what are the measurements of the bed frame?
I have a Formica cabinetry business. You can use shelf standards supports that are used to hang 6-24 inch shelving brackets as well as pvc piping or really anything to place between the laminate and the wood to keep it from sticking. In the case they get stuck incorrectly at some point where you don’t want them to you can simply get a regular water bottle full of lacquer thinner and poke a hole in the top of the clear top and spray the contacted section down with the lacquer thinner to have the two pieces release. Then just reapply the contact adhesive down to the spot that was soaked. Also they make small air pressurized bottles with a spray gun attachment you can use instead of a roller to spray the contact adhesive down to each piece. Btw you don’t have to wait 30 mins for each piece to set. Just touch it and if it barely tacky and dryish to touch it should be ready for adhesion. They also make special Formica router bits that can either leave a straight edge or a beveled edge to cut the Formica and a good way to keep it from burning is to use Crisco along the edges if you ever use Formica strips around the edges. Great video though!
As an amateur with woodworker, I typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement. Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans.works I now work like a genius. That is great!
Are the Cnc Goode files available for sale?
What is the overall width of this cabinet?
I need help I'm trying to find the frames for full sized beds
Any plans for this awesome creation?
I was overwhelmed in the first 3 minutes. Can you just build it for us and we will pay you in gum.
Really cool project. What software did you use for the sinulation of the project?
Might be a dumb question, but couldn't the CNC machine also carve out the actual drawer fronts, rather than just using it to create a template?
THIS turned out great I had one like this in my first apartment made the studio much biger…👏😊
That a Finnegan speed and marine shirt ya got on in a few parts? Gotta love some roadkill 🤣🤣
Phenomenal post-production my man. Great work, too. I don't think I've seen it's comparison for your finish-finish work. Many will do 90-95% of your effort, but that last 5% really shows. Great project.
I use small dowels instead of clamps…less mess on the clamp$$$$
VERY enjoyable channel . . . and super satisfying to watch. You do excellent work, too! 🙂 Thanks, thumbs up, and glad I subbed 👍
When did unfinished plywood edges become a thing. No one on YouTube seems to want to make a face frame
Hey man, really loving these videos! Quick question, is there any fix that you have planned for that right side windowsill that you had to shave down, or are you pretty much stuck with having to redo them again?
what i see in your tools are you are not a DIY person. DIY people does not use fancy expensive Festools you do this for your business basic skill saw 79$ to 200$ festools 600 to 1000$ dollars or more.
Amazing work as always!
Glue actually provides more strength than the screws if you clamp the joint while the glue cures. You are going overboard with using the quantity of dominoes AND glue AND screws. The screws are basically mini clamps that hold the wood together while the glue dries. The domino provides a continuous segment of wood through the joint and more surface area for the glue to adhere to. If you are using a good glue, it is stronger than the wood and you will break the plywood before the glue lets go. With the combination of the three joining methods, you only need enough screws to hold the joint tightly together while the glue dries and you only need enough dominoes to ensure proper joint alignment.
@craftedworkshop I generally don’t glue box joints just because it’s just a weak glue surface anyway. Check out confirmat screws, they’re designed specifically for cabinetry and are crazy beefy.
Where did you buy that universal drawer runner jig thing?
Watched these backwards. Watched the desk build first. The room looks great! I hate that you had some issues, but I appreciate you leaving them in and letting us see them. It's always helpful to watch the fixes.
Sick shirt
Wouldn’t it make it easier for disassembly in the event that you need to move this project to another room or home if you didn’t use glue?
Cool
I've found that a little glue goes a long way, especially in this case where you have other fasteners like dominos and screws. Cool project dude!!
hey johnny! at 6:55 use hot glue 😀
It looks amazing,, and you are a very handsome man.. well done.
Knocked it out of the park JB!
This is awesome!!
That charging table is making me nervous imagine numbing in to it whilst your charger was in 🥴
we got people building shit like this to save space while we also have millions of vacant houses and billionaires with a dozen vacation homes… shits wack
That FSM shirt 💪🏻💪🏻
was it some sort of optical illusion or were the bed slats kinda bowed a bit? As with all your projects excellent work and video!!
I mean … why bother with the murphy kit once you've gone that far? DIY the whole thing.
A grout float for a push block! Good idea!
Finally a build I can probably afford to make!
Skipped video how we learn
Love the pull out charging table, that's an awesome idea.
