My second favorite of all time behind Barbara Stanwick. She was gorgeous, talented, funny, a pain in the a** to direct (according to TCM) and had terrible stage fright – so bad infact Mary Martin had to take the roll of Peter Pan at the last minute because Jean just couldn’t bring herself to do it (again according to TCM). Love every one of her movies.
I doubt that Jean Arthur enjoyed posing for pictures such as this. I don’t think she was considered all that sexy. But from the mid 1930s and for several years afterward, I think she was one of the prettier women in films. She looked much better as a blonde than as a brunette. She would be one of my 10 favorite Stars of the golden era. That includes men and women. Thanks for the photo!

Saw her in Peter Pan when I was a kid. Dad took me backstage and introduced me. I was too young to be impressed.
She played Peter Pan in 1950 opposite Boris Karloff as Captain Hook.
