  1. As a kid growing up in Vancouver BC in the 70’s I used to take the three busses to the movie theater 6 down town and pay once but see several movies I would always end up on the Close Encounters of a 3rd Kind theater. Would watch over & over;)

  2. To me this is spielberg’s best movie. Just totally new and totally believable. When I later saw Jurassic park it seemed several levels below in imagination, atmosphere, believability.

  3. and all those incredible Doug Trumbull visual effects that Spielberg tried to take credit for . .

  4. You mean they didn’t really airlift a 20,000 ton cargo ship 500 miles inland for a couple of quick shots?? I’m shattered

  5. The late Dougie Slocome shot 2nd unit on this film, and possibly shot this scene. Certainly it was his way onto the Indiana Jones series as Spielberg liked his straightforward approach to filming.

  6. These added shots were photographed by John Alonzo, Douglas Slocombe and Laszlo Kovacs. What’s amazing is that Julia Phillips apparently kept looking for excuses to fire Vilmos Zsigmond during the original Production. I remember reading somewhere years ago that something like 80 Electrics would be working at one time while they were filming in the old Blimp Hangar in Mobile, Alabama.

  7. un real one actor from this was even in 2014 monuments men!! 😉😉🤞🤞 even a young actor lance from 83 right stuff, 84 terminator, was in close encounters!! 😉😉😉

  8. was a massive production speilberg did a lot of filming in a huge hangar in alabama @ the time was by far his most expensive film ever made …..until 89 Abyss 😎😎😎

  9. The photographer, Jim Coe, has a son and grandson in the business. Both work in the camera department.

  10. Forced perspective shot to make ship look huge with vehicles and men smaller in the deep background

  11. Shame looks great but the wreck of the real ship Cotopaxi was found a year or so later but not confirmed until 2020
