This was really very helpful – thanks!
MDF is good for things that need to be really smooth. Think jigs.
What kind of wood did you use for you work bench and cabnets behind you?
Wait! Math do you really get 50% more from 1/2 inch to 3/4? I think that would be 25% LOL, 50% more of 1/2 inch would be 1" right?
Love the end where you said put the sheets BACK in the pile I know for a fact the lumber associates would appreciate that
local update in Arizona, birch plywood 3/4 at Home Depot is $98 a sheet!
Thanks, very helpful!
6 month later price update
Radiata Pine – $65 up from $60
Maple – $82 up from $70
Red Oak – $80 up from $68
Birch – $80 up from $67
Thank you for this video. Your knowledge has helped me better understand what I need and what I don't. Very best…
great info. what if I need to raise the floor by a 1/4 inch for LVT installation so that it is flushed next to a tile floor? what 1/4 inch plywood would you recommend on top of a concrete floor? thx
I've had pretty good success buying birch plywood at Menards. An even sweeter deal is most often they have their 11% Mail in rebate offer going on for an in store credit. I have unfortunately made the mistake of buying 2×4 foot sheet out of convenience. This is when you don't actually save big money at Menards. I see a lot of people using high quality Baltic birch for shop projects. I just can't justify that extra cost even though it looks better. Hopefully prices and the supply goes back to normal soon.
My ears perked up when I heard that you were local! Very, very helpful.
First mistake to avoid is buying g plywood at all from these price gouging mills is all a big rip off by thieves at the mills there is plenty of old growth timber these people at the mills are just stealing quit buying and let them choke on it!
Thank you very much for this information. Really good content. Keep it up!
Hey now someone needs to buy the plywood that is not perfect if it doesn't matter for your project.
Dumpster Diving is the answer 😂
Ditto on the mdf, melamine
So many buy desks, dressers of the stuff
OMG, .. mistake!
C2 is a bit confusing… Makes it seem like the back is nicer than the front. Perhaps they have different qualifications for each side.
Very informative. Thank you. Keep up the great work. 😁
Raise your camera or lower your chin. Don't care to look up your nose.
Which would be best for a garage that gets high moisture content?
Of course the biggest mistake of all is buying plywood or lumber at one of the big box stores!🤣
who made you an expert
Which plywood should I buy for subfloor?
What would did you use for those cabinets that are behind you in the video?
OH Thank God! Im not the only guy that brings my charged Makita to chop it down because every single Home Depot employee seems to do a "Ninja VANISH" when the com calls for help at the panel saw! Anyone know how to request a cut order (nothing crazy x2-x4 pieces of a 4×8) on a online order at either Lowes or HD? Great informative video too. thanks! I feel ya for MDF too I use it only for face frames or doors if painting opaque.
Spawn of Satan… Absolutely
Dude! Stop talking sooooo slowly. 8=>
Inch this, inch that…
For us international watchers, this is the same as alien language… 😒😣
Very interesting, I just stumbled to this video. Here in Finland all the birch plywood sheets I have seen in local hardwasre stores are good quality and look like the "baltic birch plywood" sheets. We do have a lot of big plywood factories in the country though "Koskisen","Metsä wood","UPM", so that may might be the reason for it.
Anyone know where I can get a good price on wood for building my own house? In Arkansas.
Brilliant video thank u
The biggest mistake I made as a beginner wood worker was not checking the emission grades. I ended up with major eye and throat irritation from the formaldehyde outgassing. I believe it is not a problem in US or EU cause you have established safety standards. But not here in Asia. It very hard to find ply that have low formaldehyde emissions here.
Thank you the information
In my experience, I always regret using Melamine and MDF.
A waste of money.
Plywood or solid wood only.
fun fact if your laser engraving some of the veneer plywoods at 5mm are horrible for engraving and cutting out. think its because of a high glue/ chemical content.
Melamine (pronounced Mela~mine) particle board and MDF are not really plywood in the common vernacular.
Never really thought about the lettering of plywood, so this helped a lot. Thanks for sharing.
