I didn’t get the bit where he was walking around and around with other mental prisoners and then later walked against the crowd. what was that all about?
A good film but
Heard so much about this film growing up, watched it now feel cheated that half of it is bollocks. Going to have to get the book as I’ve heard in the book is what really happened apparently Oliver Stone who did the screenplay ever so slightly twisted things that didn’t really happen, so dir Alan Parker should have not gone along with it. Did some damage to the Turkish holiday trade.
Wish this movie was shot in CinemaScope, Alan Parker’s masterpiece.
At least 60 percent of the film was shot handheld by cameraman Michael Seresin using an Arriflex BL 35 mm camera and fast Zeiss lenses.Turkey did not allowed to shoot in their prison so Alan decided to to Malta. Fantastic film.
Later, however, Billy Hayes admitted that he had invented (almost) everything so that he wanted to get the money faster. Moreover, he also emphasized that he would rather go to jail in Turkey than in the USA!
That big prison guard reminded me of Tony Soprano.
