  1. Je got involved with her when she was still married with the 2nd. husband. She got divorced and then married the lady. But he symphatized with the Nazis since he waa nephew of the german noble. They are all cousins with the german noble family but he is the only one that kept loyal to his german uncle. Therefore, he was expellled from England and the best excusee was being married with a divorcee but more powerful motive was he was loyalist to the Nazi flag.

  2. Times have changed. But the big problem was not being msrried with a divorcee but being a nazi loyal under. But he did it, becsuse the great grand uncle was king of germany. He consider himself with german blood, and actually, thryvall are but hevis the only black ship in the family.

  3. He was not the British monarch with the briefest reign. Lady Jane Grey had nine days. For example. Two key points. Edward was a very keen Nazi supporter. And, it’s illustrative of the weakness and/or complicity of the British establishment to even allow him to be crowned in the first place.

  4. You’ve often got this urge to state something bombastic and end up speaking rubbish. He hasn’t been the shortest reigning British or English monarch. Just ask Lady Jane Grey for a start.

  5. Good thing his reign was short — his love for Simpson was nothing compared to his admiration of Hitler.

  6. Mmmmm. Shortest reigning British monarch? Depends how you define British Monarch. Any English schoolboy of my generation would have set the record straight immediately. Edward VIII was certainly the shortest reigning sovereign of the United Kingdom, which dates from the Union of the Kingdoms of England and Scotland in 1707, but Lady Jane Grey reigned for 9 days as the proclaimed Queen of England in 1553, and the tragic boy-king Edward V reigned for 2 months and 16 days from April – June in 1483, and Harold II Godwinson reigned for 9 months and 16 days in 1066. All three were sovereigns of England, but in so far as England is a part of Great Britain they must also be accounted British sovereigns.

  7. Well, he found the pretext to quit the job he never wanted in the first place since (he thought) his dad had many years left. This Adolf Hitler admirer just wanted to live the life of a wealthy playboy. No responsibilities, no duties and a mother-figure to manage him. So, a great deal is owed Mrs.Simpson for being in the right place at the right time.

  8. And in other news, old Mavis down the road got knocked up by a US sailor on shore leave in Fremantle, way back in 43, they never did ID the father, but narrowed it down to a list of 15, guess old Mavis was busy that weekend!

  9. And, “the only monarch to ever abdicate”: well, by choice. Wasn’t Edward III *forced* to abdicate 🤔? And yes E III-English, E VIII-British😁

  10. True, if you mean strictly “British” monarchs (ie. after England and Scotland’s Union in 1707). But there’s at least three English monarchs before that who had shorter reigns:
    Edward V (two months);
    Lady Jane Grey (9 days, although some people don’t really count her);
    And the guy who filled in between the death of Harold II at Hastings and the coronation of William I (about six weeks).

  11. What about lady Jane Grey? Does she not count? I thought she was queen for 9 days. Does that not count as a reigning monarch?

  12. When the current monarch leaves Balmoral for the last time, please turn off the lights there and in Buckingham Palace.

  13. That’s not quite true. Edward V officially reigned 9 April to 25 June 1483. Then again, some include Jane Grey (nine days) who was proclaimed but not crowned, as was also the case with Edward VIII.

  14. He’s earned a few nicknames in his time. But only a few stick to the mind,

    “The most photographed man in the world”

    “The man who sold Britain to the Nazis”
    And

    Plus when his brother died, he only came back to England for his funeral to also ask his family for, an extension on his royal family bungs, which Wallace Simpson urged him to get the Royal family to do.
    But they froze his funds for good after that (thank god.)

  15. That marriage didn’t go very well, did it? It always seems so dreamy just to say he abdicated for love. Then end the story.

  16. American is anybody born between Canada all the way down to Cape Horn.

    Anybody born in the USA is just a US citizen.

    They’re just part of America, as Costa Rica and Honduras among many countries more.

    US is NOT America but just another state there.

  17. And yet Charles was aloud to do basically the same and sits next in line to the throne.
    The whole thing is a joke

  18. “… The King is leaving Buckingham Palace
    It’s all too cold, he’d rather have Wallis
    They’re part of the scene of life between the wars…” – Al Stewart

  19. Don’t think it was so much about wanting to marry a divorcee as being an absolute loose cannon oh and then there was the small matter of his “sympathising” with the Third Reich.

  20. He loved her so much he put up with her affairs. By a historical documentary neither of them were that great in the morale department. Status undeserved, obtained by an accident of birth. At least they didn’t have to worry about being homeless or hungry.

  21. Edward set the trend for a royal to marry an American divorcee and move away from the royal family. Harry followed his lead.

  22. Credit needs to be given to Wallis Simpson for saving the British Monarchy, for we knew now what happened later on after Edward, upon becoming Duke of Windsor, would do in the 2 years leading up to WW2 and during his Governorship of The Bahamas before Churchill started demanding for him to be court-martialed.

  23. Love is love. It knows no time or boundaries. They weren’t as forging than about these matters as the Monarchy is now. Hence Charles and Camilla.
