  1. Of course it needs to be in a special pit. The pit is crucial, just in case it goes off accidentally.

  4. Just out of interest. I’m assuming there’s radioactive material inside that bomb, does it not expose those two guys to hazardous amounts of radioactivity and shouldn’t they be wearing protective suits?

  6. Tbh, although this was horrible and atrocious, detonation of Little boy and Fat man over that two strategic cities was much needed to end the war that would probably streched to another decade with millions of casualties, cuz Japan was never in a mood of surrender

  7. OSHA would have had a field day. “Hey, that’s a nuclear bomb. You should be wearing safety glasses and a hard hat.”

  8. While living on Guam l visited the “Pit” which was open to the Public. Now it is covered because of vandalism.

  15. As this photo was being taken, the men of the USS Indianapolis, the ship that delivered the bombs to Tinian, were about to be, or were, struggling for their very lives in the waters of the Pacific. Remembering their sacrifice.

  16. It’s heartbreaking to know that people died because of this bomb. It’s also heartbreaking to try and comprehend how many others would have died if the war had continued. Terrible choice to have to make.
