I think “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) and “The Thing” (1982) are great SciFi films. “2001” had a sequel, “2010: The Year We Make Contact” (1984). I find “2010” to be a really good movie, but it does not match the brilliance of “2001”. The 2011 prequel to “The Thing”, however, is better then the original film in my opinion.
I’ve never seen a more ridiculous comparison in my life. To put the discovery of the flying saucer from the original ‘The Thing from Another World’ (1951) would suit better. 2001 has nothing to do with it, and to compare the two is to put oranges with diamonds.
Two favorites of mine
Rewatched 2001 recently and had to stop about 30 mins in – soooo dull! I wish I’d left it as a great memory … whereas The Thing is still fabulous.
we never got to see the thing’s true form
“Who Goes There?” in both cases.
No sorry can’t compare , love both films .
Yep, that’s 2 movies you got there.
Not remotely the same.
The thing is a better movie
Wrong picture of “2001”!
This is the right:
Kurt Russell and his beard want some answers
Probably in The Thing they have no budget for movie plan on Moon :/
Space odyssey is horrible! Most boring movie of all time
I like the inspiration of this franchise.
Both were astral and visionary, but even after 50 years, “2001” still has not been bested

The original.
